Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., a leading mid-tier investment bank, is currently seeking an equity research associate to support our Specialty Pharma & Biotechnology franchise. The position is located in New York City.
The ideal candidate possesses two years of prior experience in a life sciences investment banking, equities research, or consulting role with strong financial modeling skills (most important), demonstrated writing abilities, a strong work ethic, and ability to multi-task.This role requires the candidate to work independently with minimal guidance on financial modeling and company analyses.
Key responsibilities for this position include: developing and maintaining company-specific three statement financial models and valuation metrics (public comparables, acquisition comparables, DCF), authoring industry and company-specific research reports; collecting, analyzing and interpreting information from a range of data sources, including scientific literature, medical conferences, physician interviews; maintaining databases (scripts based trends, company catalysts, etc).
Specifically, we look for people who possess the following characteristics:
Excellent financial modeling, accounting, valuation, and quantitative skills. Associates are responsible for building and maintaining integrated I/S, B/S, and C/F models and for organizing and maintaining industry data. Attention to detail is critical.
Strong writing skills are essential. Associates are responsible for authoring equity research reports, company initiations, industry reports, and marketing presentations—sometimes under tight time constraints.
Strong communication skills, responsiveness, and professionalism are required.
Knowledge of Symphony, Bloomberg, and Factset are a bonus.
An excellent academic track-record is required.
An advanced degree in life sciences is preferred but not required.
