Job Description
Cajal is seeking an energetic leader motivated by Cajal’s mission to develop new medicines for patients with neurodegenerative disorders. As our Lead of Corporate and Business Development, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will identify, evaluate, and create new business opportunities through partnerships, collaborations, and licensing, as well as help set the disease and therapeutic strategy. An essential aspect of this role will be building and nurturing strong relationships within the Cajal team, with collaborators, and with external organizations.
Responsibilities:

Survey and synthesize trends in neuroscience research and biotech; collect competitive intelligence; conduct primary and secondary market research; identify external opportunities consistent with company strategy

Cultivate strategic relationships in academia and industry; facilitate R&D collaborations; serve as an external organizational face to drive the business development process

Contribute to creating a prioritized pipeline of potential licensing and acquisition opportunities; leverage deep scientific expertise to perform technical due diligence on assets of interest; participate in the structuring and negotiation of term sheets and contracts

Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Chairman of the Board on long-range strategic objectives
This job might be great for you if you have:

A successful track record with a minimum of 3 years experience in business development, portfolio strategy, market analysis, life science consulting or competitive intelligence; level based on experience

Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D.) in a neuroscience-relevant discipline (or research experience in neurological disease) preferred

MBA desirable, but not necessary

Deal and negotiation experience with a track record of executed transactions (e.g., partnership, collaboration, licensing, M&A, research agreements) desirable

Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple work streams and deadlines
