Investment Associate / Sr. Associate (Full Time)
LYFE Capital
Menlo Park, CA
Job Description
LYFE Capital is a healthcare-focused investment firm active across the United States and Asia. We partner with management teams to build and scale businesses across biotechnology, medical technology, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare services, often creating value through cross-border growth, strategic partnerships, and M&A.
The Role
We are seeking an Associate/Senior Associate to join our biotech investment team in the San Francisco Bay Area. The candidate will evaluate and support investments across the public and private biotech landscape, working directly with senior investment professionals on scientific diligence, valuation, and portfolio strategy.
This is a lean, high-ownership seat. Candidates are expected to own workstreams independently, form and defend their own views on science and value, and help shape the firm's biotech investment strategy. Because our mandate spans the US and Asia, you will collaborate with colleagues and companies across geographies, including on cross-border licensing and partnership opportunities.
Responsibilities
• Scientific and clinical diligence: Evaluate mechanisms of action, preclinical and clinical data packages, trial design, regulatory pathways, and competitive landscapes across therapeutic areas.
• Valuation and modeling: Build risk-adjusted NPV and revenue models, assess probability of technical and regulatory success, and analyze capital structures and financing needs.
• Public and private investing: Support investments across private financings, crossover rounds, and public equities, including catalyst tracking, data readout analysis, and position monitoring.
• Expert network and KOL engagement: Conduct interviews with key opinion leaders, clinicians, and industry experts to pressure-test investment theses.
• Investment materials: Draft investment memoranda and Investment Committee materials with clear, well-supported recommendations.
• Sourcing: Track emerging science, academic spinouts, and company pipelines to help originate new opportunities, including cross-border in-licensing and partnership angles.
• Portfolio support: Work with portfolio companies on clinical strategy, business development, and financing.
Qualifications
• At least 1–3 years of experience at a life sciences or biotech-specialist investment fund, with exposure to both public and/or private biotech investments
• Strong scientific literacy and the ability to critically evaluate clinical and preclinical data
• Solid financial modeling and valuation skills, including risk-adjusted approaches for development-stage assets
• Highly self-motivated, with the ability to operate autonomously, manage multiple priorities, and take ownership of outcomes with minimal oversight
• Entrepreneurial mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, resourceful, and energized by building in a growing firm
• Genuine eagerness to learn across therapeutic areas, modalities, and investment structures
• Strong interest in a global investment mandate and in working across geographies and cultures
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distill complex science into clear investment arguments
Preferred
• MD, PhD, or other advanced scientific degree (not required)
• Proficiency with MS office, AI tools and applications
• Willingness to travel internationally as needed
What We Offer
• Direct exposure to senior partners and meaningful responsibility on every investment
• Broad exposure across public and private biotech and the full investment lifecycle
• The opportunity to build expertise in cross-border life sciences investing
• Salary and total compensation will be competitive for this role, and benefits
