INVESTMENT ASSOCIATE 

Overview

Yosemite is a healthcare VC that aims to make cancer non-lethal within our lifetime by investing in cutting-edge diagnostics, therapeutics, and digital health companies. The team has been investing since 2016. In addition to its venture strategy, the team has built an academic network with hundreds of grantees in cancer research world-wide. This academic network leads to differentiated deal flow uniquely positions Yosemite to accelerate therapy translation and new company formation.

To meet the ambitious goals of its founder and rapidly-growing team, Yosemite is searching for a passionate oncology-focused Investment Associate. Yosemite is a new and growing fund and is therefore a dynamic environment which requires versatility from all members of the team, all of whom are expected to step into novel and often unfamiliar challenges as they come.   

Role Description

As a key member of Yosemite team, the Investment Associate will be expected to be involved in all aspects of the investment process, from novel thesis generation, sourcing, diligence, deal execution and portfolio support. The role will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • Sourcing new investment opportunities through meetings with researchers, other investment professionals, management teams, attending conferences, etc. Sourcing could entail identifying new exciting startups for potential investment, or new and exciting science to potentially build a company around.

  • Diligencing potential investments to ensure they are financially and scientifically sound, in-line with Yosemite’s values, and have the potential to significantly help cancer patients and generate returns.

  • Supporting portfolio companies through ad hoc check-ins, strategic or operational support, fundraising, board director or observer positions, and other portfolio capacity building activities.

  • Analyzing, codifying, and regularly communicating key trends in cutting-edge oncology research, updates from existing portfolio companies, and investment proposals to the rest of Yosemite’s investment team.

  • Interact with limited partners to address their questions and requests for market analysis.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience:

  • An undergraduate degree in life sciences, finance, or a related field is required

  • An MD or PhD is preferred

  • 3-5 years of experience ideally in venture capital, biotech R&D, clinical practice, management consulting, investment banking or founding a company

  • Proven track record of leadership and experience managing multiple projects or work streams

    The ideal candidate is:

  • Passionate about dramatically accelerating the pace of bringing oncology discoveries to patients to improve clinical outcomes

  • Deeply interested in the scientific, financial, and business aspects of pushing

    forward exciting research through commercial entities

  • Highly organized and proactive, capable of handling multiple in-flight projects and navigating situations while dealing with high levels of uncertainty

  • Comfortable in a collaborative and ever-dynamic work environment where team members are open, flexible, and adaptable to the needs of the organization

  • A team player who enjoys leveraging learnings from the Investment Associate role to support non-investment efforts of the team, as well as broader efforts across Yosemite

Location
This position will be based in San Francisco, CA. Some travel required but will generally not exceed 30%
