Job Description

Job Title: Executive Director, Biotech Investments
Location: Menlo Park, CA (or other major biotech investment hubs)

About the Firm: We are a dynamic fast-growing biotech investment fund with a bold vision to identify and support the next generation of transformative life sciences companies using next generation technologies. Combining deep scientific expertise with a rigorous large-scale data approach, we identify market inefficiency through comprehensive data and proprietary analytics, as well as bridge the gap between private and public markets. We back innovative biotech companies through public equity investments, IPOs and selected private rounds. As a relatively new firm, we offer a rare ground-floor opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping our investment strategy, culture, and long-term success. For an ambitious investor with the right mix of scientific depth, financial acumen, entrepreneurial drive, and long-term vision, this is an unparalleled chance to be part of effort to build a top-tier life sciences investment platform from the ground up and grow with the firm as we scale.

Position Overview: The individual will play a critical and integrated role in the firm’s investment team, taking a primary leadership position in driving deal sourcing and investment evaluation across both late-stage private and public biotech companies. This role requires a strong mix of scientific expertise, public market or crossover/venture experience, and a startup mindset—someone eager to help shape the firm’s trajectory while benefiting from the immense growth potential of joining an early-stage investment platform. This role enables the right candidate to influence fund strategy and meaningfully contribute to portfolio build-up and performance.

Key Responsibilities:
• Deal Sourcing & Due Diligence: Identify and evaluate high-potential investment opportunities, assessing both scientific and financial fundamentals.
• Deal Execution: Execute non-structured and structured deals with moderate/minimal supervision.
• Portfolio Company Leadership: Play a central role in managing a dynamic portfolio of high-growth biotech companies, actively engaging with management teams to drive value creation through clinical milestones, regulatory strategies, and capital markets events, with potential board representation.
• Industry network: take an initiative to maintain and add onto NEXTBio’s industry and market network.
• Shape the Investment Strategy: Help define and refine the fund’s approach to biotech crossover and public investing, leveraging deep market insights.

Why Join Us?
• Unmatched Growth Opportunity: This is a unique chance to step into a mid/senior level role early at a growing fund, with a clear path to greater influence, responsibility, and upside
as the firm expands.
• Significant Financial Upside: We offer meaningful carried interest/equity participation, ensuring that early team members share in the long-term success of the platform.
• Dynamic & Entrepreneurial Culture: Be part of an agile, fast-moving team that values innovation, bold thinking, and collaboration—where your ideas and contributions directly shape the firm’s future.
• Access to Cutting-Edge Science & Industry Leaders: Work at the intersection of biotech innovation and finance, engaging with some of the most visionary founders, executives, and investors in the space.

Qualifications:
• Education: Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry, or a related life sciences field, or MD; MBA or CFA is a plus but not required.
• Experience: 6+ years in biotech investing, investment banking, hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, or management consulting with a strong focus on crossover and public markets.
• Scientific & Financial Acumen: Strong ability to analyze biotech companies, clinical data, and valuation models, with a keen understanding of market dynamics.
• Capital Markets Expertise: Experience navigating IPOs, secondary offerings, and structured transactions.
• Entrepreneurial Mindset: Ability to thrive in a startup environment, wearing multiple hats and contributing beyond core responsibilities.
• Industry Network: Established relationships with biotech CEOs, venture investors, bankers, and institutional investors.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior mid/senior role at a crossover biotech fund, hedge fund, or late-stage VC firm.
• Demonstrated track record of successful biotech investments, particularly in IPO-stage and public market deals.
• Familiarity with FDA/EMA regulatory processes and biotech commercialization strategies.

Compensation & Benefits:
• Base salary + performance-based bonus
• Carried interest/equity participation in the funds
• Customary healthcare & retirement benefits
• Opportunity to help build and shape a top-tier biotech investment platform

How to Apply: If you are an ambitious biotech investor looking for a high growth opportunity in a high-growth startup fund, we encourage you to apply.
