Summary: Top investment bank is seeking an equity research associate to support senior biotechnology analyst covering mid- and small-cap companies out of our New York office.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting proprietary research evaluating drug pipelines by analyzing scientific literature, attending medical conferences, and speaking with key opinion leaders
  • Building and maintaining financial models
  • Writing research reports for initiations of coverage, analysis of data, and industry/company news
  • Conceiving and executing on differentiated project ideas
  • Interfacing with company management teams, internal sales and trading personnel, and institutional investors


Qualifications - External

Key qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in life sciences (PhD/MD), with excellent academic track-record and interest in finance preferred. History of scientific publications a plus
  • Pre-med (BS/BA) pivoting into finance, with excellent academic track-record also considered
  • Proficiency in written/verbal communication
  • 1+ years experience in biopharmaceuticals equity research a plus
  • SIE, Series 63, Series 86 and Series 87 preferred
  • Experience building financial models using excel a required on-the-job skill; prior experience is a plus
  • Strong understanding of, or experience with, drug development and the FDA-approval process for pharmacologic treatments is a plus
  • Motivated, hard-working, team player

Senior Analyst Bio:

The Senior Analyst received a BS in Animal Science, a MS in Animal Biology and a PhD in Animal Behavior from the University of California, Davis. The focus of research at UC Davis was on the evaluation and improvement of laboratory animal housing and behavioral interpretations to increase external validity for translational medicine. Following UC Davis, the analyst served as a postdoctoral researcher at both the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford University, with research centered on the discovery and evaluation of behavioral and molecular biomarkers of neurodevelopmental diseases. Throughout his academic career, the analyst has published 10+ scientific publications in journals including PNAS and PLOS One. Professionally, the analyst conceived, operationalized and managed a successful live bio-pharmaceutical (LBPs, a.k.a. ‘microbiome therapeutics’) discovery program at a mid-sized biotechnology company, along with performing equity research covering small and mid-cap biotech companies for several years.

The salary range for this role is $115,000 - $150,000.
