H.C. Wainwright was established in 1868 and is a New York City based boutique healthcare Investment bank. The company is dedicated to providing corporate finance, strategic advisory and related services to public and private growth companies across multiple sectors and regions.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a Research Associate to join our biotechnology equity research team. Our coverage includes a mix of small- and large-cap biopharma companies. In this role, you will work directly with the senior analyst to conduct fundamental and financial analysis of companies across the sector.
Key responsibilities include writing company reports, maintaining and building financial models, and helping develop differentiated investment views based on clinical data, commercial dynamics, and broader industry trends. You will also have the opportunity to interact with senior management teams, interview physician experts, and attend major medical conferences. Additional responsibilities include reviewing and assessing medical and scientific literature and helping support events and conferences for institutional investors.
The team’s work spans multiple therapeutic areas, including neurology, psychiatry, immunology, endocrinology, and ophthalmology. The role requires the ability to quickly synthesize complex clinical and commercial information into clear, thoughtful analysis.
A strong work ethic, excellent writing skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and the ability to perform under tight deadlines are essential for success in this role. Over time, as skills develop, the Research Associate will have the opportunity to take on greater responsibility, including co-coverage of companies and potentially independent coverage.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a life sciences discipline, such as an M.D., M.S., or Ph.D., is helpful but not required
- Minimum of 1+ years of experience in the biopharma industry and/or life sciences research or training
- Prior equity research experience is a plus, but not required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- High level of ownership, urgency, and reliability under tight deadlines
COMPENSATION: $75—150K base, commensurate with qualifications and experience
