Director, Capital Formation & Investor Relations (Full Time)

Octagon Capital Advisors LP

New York, NY

Posted August 19

Job Description

Octagon Capital Advisors is a healthcare-dedicated investment firm founded and led by a scientist-investor. We invest across the global biopharmaceutical and life sciences landscape through both public and private strategies, with a differentiated focus on the convergence of U.S. and Asian innovation.

We are hiring our first dedicated capital formation professional. You will own the firm's relationship with the institutional investor community end to end: identifying and opening new investor relationships, running them through diligence, and keeping existing investors informed with a great degree of technical substance.

This is a builder's seat, not a caretaker's. You will inherit an existing investor base and a partially built infrastructure, and you will be expected to materially expand both. The mandate is net-new capital first, everything else second.

Reporting directly to the Founder and Managing Partner.

The ROLE

Capital raising (the majority of your time)

-        Build and maintain a segmented map of the global allocator universe relevant to a healthcare specialist manager: endowments and foundations, family offices, OCIOs, insurance balance sheets, funds of funds, pensions, and the consultant channel.

-        Prioritize ruthlessly. We are not interested in a long list of investors; we are interested in a select investor base whose mandate, check size, investment horizon, and healthcare interest fit.

-        Originate meetings through direct outreach, prime brokerage capital introduction, conference channels, and existing network. Own the pipeline, the CRM discipline, and the honest forecast.

-        Run investors from first meeting through operational and investment due diligence to close: manage the data room, DDQ and RFP responses, reference calls, ODD site visits, and legal/subscription coordination with investment team and back office.

 Marketing and positioning

-        Own all investor-facing collateral: pitch materials, tear sheets, DDQs, the firm website, and the firm's public presence.

-        Play major role in the annual meeting and investor events

-        Propose and execute new initiatives (content, events, conference strategy, targeted campaigns)

 What We Are Looking For

 **Required**

-        3+ years of experience in institutional capital raising, investor relations, medical communications, hedge fund or private fund distribution, prime brokerage capital introduction, placement/advisory, or institutional sales. Experience selling a single-strategy or specialist manager is more relevant than experience at a large multi-strategy platform.

-        Demonstrated fluency in life sciences: enough command of clinical trial design, endpoints, statistical significance, regulatory pathways, competitive landscapes, and biotech valuation to hold your own in a first meeting with an allocator's healthcare specialist without a script.

-        Exceptional writing

-        Genuine tolerance for rejection and cold outreach, and the self-direction to fill your own calendar without being managed.

-        Absolute integrity in how our track record, process, and pipeline are represented, internally and externally.

 **Strongly preferred**

-        An advanced degree in a biomedical field (PhD, MD, MS) or equivalent hands-on scientific or clinical background or, alternatively, time spent in biotech equity research, healthcare investment banking, medical communications, biotech corporate IR, or life sciences venture.

-        Familiarity with both liquid and private fund structures

-        Experience with the consultant and OCIO channel, and with ODD processes at institutional quality.

 Salary: $200K-$400K commensurate with experience

 Application process:

  • Please submit the following documents:
    • CV
    • A writing sample you personally wrote (e.g., an investor letter, research note, memo, or equivalent)
    • Name three specific allocator archetypes you would target first for a manager like Octagon, and for each, the single reason they would say no

·        Only applicants who submit all three items will be considered. We are aware this is a real ask before an offer exists; it is deliberate, and it is the same standard we apply to ourselves.
