Job Description

Mountainfield Venture Partners is a newly launched firm that creates biopharmaceutical companies with financial and strategic backing from leading life sciences venture capital investors.  We form new companies by: (1) acquiring or in-licensing preclinical and/or clinical stage drug candidates, (2) raising capital via syndicated Series A financing, (3) building world-class management teams, and (4) establishing the development strategy, manufacturing and operational support.  We are led by Managing Partners Dan Curran and David Socks.  Based in Boston, Dan previously led the Center for External Innovation (BD and venture investments) and then rare disease R&D for Takeda.  Based in San Diego, David was previously a Venture Partner with Frazier Life Sciences and Windamere Venture Partners where he co-founded more than 15 venture-backed life sciences companies, leading to 6 IPOs and multiple additional successful exits.

The Associate/Senior Associate will support all facets of company creation.  The traditional starting role in venture capital is primarily an analyst role, focused on scientific evaluation and due diligence – and that is an important part of this position.  However, the Associate/Senior Associate will also work side-by-side with the partners to search for and evaluate assets, negotiate licensing transactions, raise equity capital, recruit management teams, develop R&D strategy, and assist in establishing our companies’ operational capabilities.  We offer a competitive salary as well as equity in the new companies we create.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Great intellectual curiosity with a desire to learn and solve complex problems
  • A self-starter mentality, able to work highly independently
  • Strong sense of urgency with a pragmatic bias toward action
  • Tremendous people skills, high EQ, and a team-first orientation
  • Comfort with ambiguity and willingness to take on multiple roles
  • Grit, resilience, tenacity, and a strong work ethic
  • Impeccable integrity

Education, experience, and skills:

  • Ph.D., M.D., or master’s degree in a scientific discipline, or scientific undergraduate degree with commensurate work experience
  • Life sciences management consulting or investment banking experience, or experience working in a business development or other similar role at biotechnology/pharmaceutical company
  • Deep primary research experience and strong financial modeling skills
  • Excel and PowerPoint mastery

Travel Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel domestically (20-30%)
  • Some international travel may be required

Mountainfield is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status. We welcome all to apply.
